It was a fairly stripped-down evening of music at The Originals Music Series, with two acts that let their soulful vocals and expert guitar playing speak volumes.
Patrick Leaver, perhaps best known in the Valley for his work as the frontman of The Phoenix Bridge, came to Chicago Restaurant’s Club Gravity with an acoustic guitar to play a mix of the band’s tunes alongside some covers (including three from Jeff Buckley) and newer original tunes. The one man show was energetic and vibrant, and Leaver seemed to have a genuine good time onstage.
When he was done, Dave Lewis and Amy Tomaszewski of Mo7s took the stage to play through the band’s latest album, “Gift Horse,” as well as some other personal favorites. The couple — who announced to those in attendance at Chicago that they are now engaged — were solid as expected, with Lewis’ crisp guitar work balancing Tomaszewski’s heartfelt alto.
Next week: The Originals Music Series welcomes Copper Fields and Andrew Mark Schaffer, Thursday at 7 p.m. at Chicago Restaurant, 1179 Airport Road in Allentown. Stay tuned to the Series’ official Facebook page for more information.
