Philly’s Civil Youth Unveils ‘Dark Debts’ Music Video

Philadelphia alt-rockers Civil Youth have been busy in preparation for their forthcoming album, “Conversations.” The band has been opening for bands like Twenty One Pilots, AWOLNATION, Phantogram, and Capital Cities.

Recently, the band has given fans a taste of their genre-bending diversity by partnering with Myspace to unveil their new music video for “Dark Debts,” the second of three singles the band has decided to drop before the album’s May 19 release. A dark blend of rock, hip-hop, and pop that reflects shades of early Linkin Park, the track – and, likewise, its dreamlike video directed by Eric Griffin – touches on the emotions we face when fighting our inner demons.

“It’s a crushing reality when these dark nights are spent alone. This song really personifies the whole concept of the record,” said Civil Youth lead singer Michael Kepko. “For the music video, we wanted to personify the metaphor of fighting inner demons and struggling with your own self; hence, the climax of the video, where ‘Dream Mike’ is having a conversation with the ‘Real Mike.’”
