Thursday night was a long time coming.
Not only did we enjoy the always-welcome return of rock trio Rofo Audio to the Club Gravity stage for The Originals Music Series but, for the first time ever, we had the chance to experience the live sounds of Elwood James Band.
If that name sounds familiar, it’s because you may remember, back in our primitive days, we reviewed Elwood James Band’s “Forgetting The Sound” EP. The Bucks County rock and rollers have become pals with Rofo Audio, which one might believe led to their debut appearance at Chicago.
Their sound was crisp and soulful, delivering a polished product that often straddled the line between traditional rock and blues. We’ve been waiting a long time to hear it in-person, and it was well worth the wait!
Rofo Audio kept things rolling for the rest of the night, opening their set with “Now Broadcasting” favorites “Circle Back” and “Maisie” before employing a healthy mix of tracks from that album and their latest, “Reach.” We even had the chance to preview a new song, believed to be titled “Plausible Deniability,” which we expect to hear on Album #3.
The guys in Rofo Audio keep getting better. Their sound, and the impact on the local rock landscape, seems to get bigger each time out. With big hooks and an accessible rock sound that just about anyone can enjoy, it’s no wonder why they’re finding themselves with more opportunities to be heard these days.
