Memorial Day is known nationwide as the unofficial start of summer. At least, that might be the case everywhere except Bethlehem, where the start of the Levitt Pavilion season at SteelStacks got summer underway a week early with the Greater Lehigh Valley Music Association’s Winners Preview Weekend.
The community packed the Levitt lawn on Friday night — right in front of Bethlehem’s iconic blast furnaces — to hear multi-time Lehigh Valley Music Award winners Brian Dean Moore Band, with opening support from singer-songwriter Jacqui Armbruster. We caught Moore’s set full of high-energy country hits, which kicked off the season with a party-like atmosphere on a warm and pleasant evening that one might expect in July.
After Moore’s band wrapped up, it was time for some bonus action over on the TD Bank stage outside of the ArtsQuest Center. That’s where Pentley Holmes — who is playing this big festival with us next week — and his band were sounding as soulful as ever. We managed to sneak a few photos before calling it a night.
