After Julia Sommer and Dana Gaynor concluded a rather magical evening at Levitt Pavilion last night, I decided to take a stroll across the street to see who was playing on the ArtsQuest Center’s TD Bank stage.
Little did I know, I would hear a familiar voice.
Right in front of the ArtsQuest Center, it just so happened that local legend Dina Hall was getting her set underway. Hall was joined onstage by frequent collaborator/guitar wizard Andy Killcoyne for what can best be described as appropriately mellow acoustic folk. Those who had stuck around following the Levitt show rightfully gave Hall their undivided attention as she played favorite selections from her catalog alongside covers from the likes of Bob Dylan and The Everly Brothers.
At one point, Hall remarked that the atmosphere surrounding the stage was not unlike a listening room. Without question, the musicianship on the stage played a big role in creating that feeling.
