PHOTOS: Fig Bethlehem Summer Issue Launch at PBS39
Tuesday night, PBS39 welcomed Fig Bethlehem and a host of small business owners and community members into its PPL Public Media Center for a night that was all about community and collaboration.
The date was set to commemorate the launch of Fig Bethlehem’s Summer Issue, the local publication’s latest dynamic installment highlighting arts, culture, food, and more in and around Bethlehem. The evening, however, would come to serve as a “dual launch” according to Fig Bethlehem Director Kiera Wilhelm. That’s because Fig and PBS39 unveiled the first videos in their new “Makers in the Lehigh Valley” series; five inspiring videos highlighting the philosophy and passion behind the work of local food artisans Bonn Place Brewing, The Wayfare Baker, Lit Coffee Roastery & Bakeshop, and the Bethlehem Food Co-op. The videos put the spotlight on local, homegrown business, and PBS39 announced plans to share them cross-promotionally this summer on its PBS39 CREATE TV network and both organizations’ digital channels.
And, of course, there was music. Kara Hartzell of Alex Mery & The Townsmen — Lehigh Valley Underground’s featured artist in the summer issue’s Fig Voices column — provided some familiar tunes and snuck in an original or two to add ambiance to the evening, which also included refreshments from Springtown Inn, Fegley’s Brew Works, and Franklin Hill Vineyards.
Through it all, there was a prevailing sense of community. Not only did folks have the chance to enjoy completely homegrown refreshments and entertainment; they also had the opportunity to exchange ideas that will surely propel a lot of new and exciting developments — for the arts community and Greater Lehigh Valley as a whole — in the coming months!
