Review: Ceramic Animal – The Cart
Artist: Ceramic Animal
Album: The Cart
Released: Aug. 30, 2016
Genre: Psych pop/indie rock
Philly’s Ceramic Animal combines modern-day psychedelia with vintage rock and roll on their acclaimed album, “The Cart.”
Listeners can expect to hear fun, funky grooves for a slight Fitz and the Tantrums vibe (look to the band’s big single, “Dreams Via Memories,” as the prime example of this), overlayed with reverb-heavy vocals, distorted guitars, and dreamy keys to make things feel consistently spacy.
Other highlights include “Mistakes,” a catchy mid-tempo number with some attention-grabbing guitar work; “Edgy,” a fun surf rock tune that is a touch reminiscent of Minus the Bear; and closing track “Codename Righteous,” which feels right out of the darker side of the 1960s psychedelic movement.
