‘Moonshine & Honey’: The Hook’s Sweet Hangover, Coming Soon

After several years of writing and developing a sound that doesn’t necessarily fall within the constraints of a single genre, The Hook is on track for reaching a milestone by the New Year — releasing a full-length, 15-track debut album titled “Moonshine & Honey.”

Based in the Lehigh Valley, The Hook is Carlos Barata (lead guitar, vocals), Chris Kondravy (drums, vocals), Youssef Moussa (bass), and Joe DiMarco (keys) — a four-eyed, feel-good, not-so-typical original and original cover band. From roots, to blues and rock, to reggae, the foursome pairs a simple, sweet, yet somewhat grunge-y sound with catchy hooks, harmonies, and raw, accessible lyrics. With influences ranging from Sublime, Foo Fighters, The Strokes, The Black Keys, Jack White, Motown and classic rock icons like The Temptations, Gloria Gaynor, The Beatles, The Kinks, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, and more) The Hook aims to find a sweet spot and keeps you there.

The Hook was first introduced to the libation, moonshine and honey, by Carlos’ dad, João. After his recent passing in March 2017, the overarching theme is fitting. The album’s artwork is inspired by an old photograph of Carlos’ parents in the late ’80s, meant to convey an addiction for nostalgia — a deep longing for a better time and place. “Life, love, work, relationships, winning and losing — “Moonshine & Honey” is like taking all of the finer things in life, jamming them into a bottle and chugging,” said Barata, “but tasting every drop, sipping on the lyrics and savoring the beat.”

Barata continues, “The result is something simple, sweet, serious, and intoxicating. The essence of the album is captured in this phrase: live, love, and sing like there’s no tomorrow, but always be true. In other words, embrace your disposition — feel good about where you are, what you’ve done, and where you’re going, but don’t get ahead of yourself. Always remember where you came from.”

In collaboration with Duckhead Records, based in Bethlehem and New York City, The Hook is aiming for an early January 2018 release, with an official release show to be announced on the band’s website and Facebook page. Fans are encouraged to support the album’s production by contributing to the band’s GoFundMe campaign at gofundme.com/moonshineandhoney, or attending their upcoming shows in 2017 (all shows are free unless otherwise noted):
