The first taste of new music was released earlier this month, with new single “On the Horizon” recalling the true story of Hartzell’s lonely dinner for one through the eyes of a fictional third-person.
The track has more of a rock edge than Hartzell’s previous work, with the singer-songwriter accounting for all of its instrumentation save for drums, which were handled by producer Kevin Soffera, whose previous touring credits include stints with Breaking Benjamin and Seether.
The accompanying video for “On the Horizon” supports Hartzell’s new, edgier style. Shot and produced by Austin Hein Productions, the video’s shadowy demeanor is accented by the backlighting of what appears to be natural sunlight, perhaps meant to signify shining hope through the darkness of a failed relationship — one represented by the singer’s real, personal photos going up in flames.
The video also features a “backing band” of local musicians that includes Soffera, lead guitarist Gabriel Francis (Black Lagoon), bassist Nicholas Capozzolo (Kill the Broadcast/The Moondogs), and rhythm guitarist George Young (Once Called Saul). Check it out below!
