SouthSide Arts District Official Ribbon Cutting Set for Wed., May 30

Join Mayor Bob Donchez Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. as we celebrate the New SouthSide Arts District. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at the SouthSide Arts District main office at 324 S. New Street to celebrate the new SouthSide Arts District logo, light poll banners, website and artistic programming.

The SouthSide Arts District’s new logo, designed by Christian Weber, encompasses Bethlehem’s past with an image of the Bethlehem Steel, and its vibrant future through a beautiful kaleidoscope of color. The SouthSide Arts District wanted this vision to be present throughout the SouthSide and were fortunate to partner with Lehigh University to not only have their banners with their new logo present throughout 3rd and 4th streets, but have Lehigh University’s new banners displayed as well, to truly showcase their community partnership and collaborative future.

“These banners, along with the artistic designed flower pots, and new mural by Matt Halm, at the base of the Fahy Bridge and 3rd Streets, truly solidifies the SouthSide as the Arts District of Bethlehem.” Said Mayor Donchez.

Along with these streetscape improvements has come a resurgence of artistic programming – including a fresh new look for First Friday designed by Kate Cassidy, and a homegrown musician partnership with Gerard Longo of Lehigh Valley Underground, curators of a stylish and soulful concert series every First Friday throughout the district, showcasing 10 or more local musicians. And now ,with the new Banko Beverage Co. Beer Garden and outdoor Music Stage, this summer is sure to bring new opportunities for residents and visitors of Bethlehem to enjoy new music every First Friday, as well as every Friday afternoon on the Greenway for the Out to Lunch Concert Series.

All of this is tied together with one signature piece – the SouthSide Arts District’s new website. For the past year the team in South Bethlehem along with Brian Mixtacki of TTLG Design, have worked hard to create a website that encompasses all the SouthSide Arts District has to offer. We encourage you to visit the new website and learn more about all the exciting things happening in the SouthSide Arts District.
