Earlier this decade, Kill the Broadcast was one of the most successful original bands on our local scene. The band played multiple Musikfests in their first incarnation, and were recognized as the 2012 winners of WZZO’s now-defunct Backyard Bands competition. In addition, the band had notable gigs in Philadelphia, playing venues including The Grape Room and Legendary Dobbs.
Friday night at SouthSide 313 was one marked by stellar musicianship, improvisation, and good vibes.
The party will continue this Friday night, even after the official Lehigh Valley Underground First Friday Concert Series festivities end — and we have The Groove Merchants to thank for that.
The Groove Merchants have been expanding their reach and gaining regional notoriety. Earlier this year, they performed on Radio 104.5’s “Live at 5” program, and have been wowing crowds steadily throughout 2017.
Sunday, August 20 might just be their biggest opportunity yet.
Christopher Snyder returns to LVU. This time, he sits down with guitarist Luke Ferracone of The Groove Merchants. Luke tells us everything about the band, and extensively discusses the music that has influenced him. It’s a great read — we hope you enjoy it!
Today, The Quinn Spinn is joined by Josh Klein, the multi-instrumentalist extraordinaire behind Hairy Dudini. Hairy Dudini’s new album, “Vol. 1,” drops this Thursday, so you can be sure that we’ll hear a couple of live, in-studio tracks from the record on today’s show.
The energy was raucous and the musicianship was on-point late Friday night at The Funhouse, which was packed near capacity to hear the soulful sounds of Hambone Relay and The Groove Merchants.
Since before LVU’s inception, we’ve followed the career of The Groove Merchants. A chance encounter with this big-sounding blues band about a month before Launch Day has made us fans ever since.
This Friday, a lot more people will have the opportunity to share in the funky five-piece’s soulful sounds.
What do you do when you find yourself out of town on a Saturday night, but you still want to cover a show?
I had that question answered for me this week. I knew that I was going to be in the Philly area this weekend for some personal life stuff. As I looked through my Facebook events, I noticed that our friends Roi and the Secret People had an upcoming show at The Grape Room in Manayunk.
From there, I knew I had plans.
